Production spending on movies and television shows filmed in New Jersey hit a record $833 million last year, state officials announced Tuesday.
The 556 productions, which included the Oscar-nominated “A Complete Unknown” starring Timothée Chalamet and “Happy Gilmore 2,“ employed more than 30,000 crew members.
The Adam Sandler sequel alone spent $152 million during its 64-day filming period in the state, according to the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission.

Other notable productions in 2024 included “The Housemaid” starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, “The Beast in Me” starring Claire Danes, Kathryn Bigelow’s “A House of Dynamite,” and “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” the Bruce Springsteen biopic.
The previous record for annual spending was $701 million in 2022.
State officials credited the reinstatement of the Film and Digital Media Tax Credit Program in 2018. The program, extended through 2049, offers tax credits up to 40% for qualifying production expenses.
Beyond individual productions, Netflix broke ground on a state-of-the-art production facility in Fort Monmouth.
The authority approved $9.5 million in funding for five projects under the Film and Digital Media Studio Infrastructure Program to support additional studio development.
The commission’s Film Ready New Jersey Program has designated 43 communities across the state as certified film destinations, helping localities market themselves to producers while streamlining the production process.
