Megan Stalter’s attempt at humor during her VMA presentation left viewers frustrated, with many taking to social media to criticize what they called one of the most awkward moments of the night.
Stalter, known for her roles in Hacks and Too Much, stepped on stage Sunday night at the UBS Arena wearing a white outfit replicating a Dunkin Donuts cup while holding a rhinestone-covered Dunkin’ Donuts in her hand.
“I am ready for my big song,” she said during her speech. “Just kidding, the next artist has not one but three hits.”
The comedian continued, “I blast his music when I need a good cry or a little smile. Or when I am just strutting my stuff around my apartment.”
After more banter, she paused and asked, “Am I doing a good job at this?”
Another added, “Megan Stalter wins an award for cringiest and worst introduction of the night.”
“How is this even airing live?” a third wrote. “It’s hard to watch.”
Stalter’s appearance marked one of the few comedic interludes of the night.
The 2025 VMAs, hosted by LL Cool J and airing on CBS for the first time, featured major performances by Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, and Kendrick Lamar, along with award presentations across 21 fan-voted categories.
