Nancy Guthrie sheriff confirms family ‘cleared as possible suspects’ – Celebrity News – Entertainment

The Sheriff leading the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has confirmed that all family members have been cleared as potential suspects.

In a statement on February 16, Sheriff Chris Nanos said, “To be clear…the Guthrie family – to include all siblings and spouses — has been cleared as possible suspects in this case.

“The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious, and are victims in this case. To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel. The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple…please, I’m begging you the media to honor your profession and report with some sense of compassion and professionalism.” It comes after an ex-FBI agent revealed the hidden codeword that Savannah used in her message to the kidnappers.

The update comes after authorities previously shared they were leaning away from the family, the first indication of anyone being removed from the list of potential suspects in Nancy’s abduction. 

Previous statements suggested that authorities did not believe any members of the Guthrie family were involved in the crime, and that they were also leaning away from the man who was previously detained shortly after surveillance footage from Nancy’s doorbell camera was released.

This is the first time that anyone has been officially cleared in the case, as the search for Nancy heads into its third week. 

Throughout the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance, police had previously maintained that no individuals or possibilities had been ruled out, including her children–Today Show cohost Savannah Guthrie, Camron Guthrie, and Annie Guthrie, as well as Annie’s husband, Tomasso Cioni. 

While all have been cleared and Nanos says they have been nothing but cooperative, his office still maintains that it is following up on any and all leads. 

“Investigators continue to follow up on all leads. The suspect description released by the FBI this week remains a key focus; however, investigators are not ruling out any individuals or possibilities…We ask the public to continue submitting actionable tips,” they said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

Nancy was reported missing on February 1 after failing to attend a church service. She was last seen the night before after being dropped off at her home by a family member after dinner at Annie’s house. 

The FBI released doorbell camera surveillance footage during the second week of her disappearance, which was recovered from a server after initially being unavailable because Nancy, 84, did not pay for a subscription to store footage. 

The clips showed a man who has been described as being between 5’9” and -5’10” approaching the camera while wearing a ski mask and gloves, wearing a backpack, and armed with a gun. 

Ransom notes have also appeared, including demands for funds in order to receive information.  It comes as the man who claims to know Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapper reveals the chilling reason he wants Bitcoin.
