It’s a light New Music Friday as just about everything that needs to be released in the fourth quarter of 2025 is out there. A few stragglers will appear in the coming weeks, and we may see a few additional advance singles for albums due in Q1 of 2026. I will report as required. Meanwhile, tomorrow (November 29) is the Black Friday edition of New Music Friday. There are all sorts of goodness available.

Singles

1. Amos the Transparent, Steady Light (ArtHaus Music)

Coming from Ottawa, this five-piece group is well road-tested having spent thousands of miles crisscrossing the continent in a van. If you’re looking for a song that gives you all sorts of feels from the 90s, you’ll find something to like here. If you’re in Ottawa, there’s a hometown Christmas show at Club Saw on December 20.

2. The Blue Stones, Happy Cry (New Weapon Records)

This is the third Blue Stones single that points toward a new album 2026. If you’re looking for a little catharsis over something you can’t change and need to accept, this is probably a good prescription.

3. Rob Zombie, Heathen Days (Nuclear Blast)

Nothing says Christmas more than a new Rob Zombie single. This is the second single from The Great Satan, which will be available February 27. Industrial metal sounds good at any time of year.

Albums

1. The Boy Detective, Disco Lunch (Punkerton)

How about some late fall ska-punk? The Boy Detective is a seven-piece from Ypsilanti, Michigan, which began when two friends started goofing about by singing ska-punk songs about their wives and kids. The started getting serious just as COVID started, but that wasn’t enough to stop them entire. They have just dropped their second album. And how can you not want to listen to a single with a title like this?

2. The Beatles, Anthology 4 (Universal)

The people at Abbey Road keep unearthing material The Beatles left behind. Now, however, Giles Martin (the overseer of this project) indicates that the well might be dry, and after looking through the track listing, plenty of fans agree. Still, if you’re a completist, you’ll want this collection–the first Anthology collection since 1996–even though it’s mostly previously-released songs.

3. The Flaming Lips, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Live at the OKC Zoo Amphitheatre, Aug 30, 2024 (Rhino/Warner)

It’s just like it says: The band’s 2002 album played in its entirely at the Oklahoma City Zoo. Here’s video of the entire event.
