TREATY 1 TERRITORY, WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Production has started for the second season of Arctic-set comedy “North of North,” which premieres on APTN, CBC and Netflix later this year.

Actress Anna Lambe reprises her starring role as Siaja, with actors Maika Harper, Braeden Clarke, Jay Ryan, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Zorga Qaunaq, Bailey Poching, Nutaaq Doreen Simmonds and Keira Cooper.

The show follows a young Inuk mother named Siaja who is attempting to build a new life in the tiny Arctic community of Ice Cove.

After leaving her marriage to self-absorbed husband Ting, Siaja crashes on her mother Neevee’s couch with her daughter Bun and attempts to rebuild her life independently through hilarious mishaps and mess-ups as she discovers things about herself and her family’s past.

The show also embraces the nuances of Inuit life, culture and language of the Indigenous people of the Arctic regions of Canada, hence the title “North of North.”

Within the show, Inuit phrases and traditional lifeways can be heard and seen, giving a better understanding of the Inuit way of life with a mix of comedy.

“There needs to be an understanding that our lives look slightly different from yours,” Lambe said in an Up Here article. “But we live and we exist so similar to you. We’re still human beings who have families and lives and care about things. We’re so much like the rest of the world, just colder.”

“North of North” first premiered in Canada on APTN (Aboriginal Peoples Television Network) and CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) in January 2025 and premiered globally on Netflix in April 2025.

In its only season so far, the series achieved a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, took home five awards at the 2025 Directors Guild of Canada Awards including Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series for Danis Goulet and Comedy Series Crew of the Year. The show is also nominated for the 41st Film Independent Spirit Awards’ Best New Series and Best Performance in a New Series for Anna Lambe.

The show also leads every nomination in a single comedy category at this year’s Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Awards.

“North of North” was created and executive produced by Stacey Aglok Macdonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril of Red Marrow Media, executive produced by Miranda de Pencier of Northwood Entertainment and is an APTN, CBC and Netflix original series.

Season two is currently filming in Iqaluit, Nunavet and Toronto. View the APTN press release for more details. Watch season one on APTN, CBC and Netflix networks.
