A body language expert highlights how Prince Edward’s growing confidence complements his wife’s natural ease as the pair take on an expanded schedule of royal duties amid Andrew’s Epstein scandal
The Duke of Edinburgh might be preparing to take on a more prominent role after his brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was stripped of his royal titles.
Andrew, formerly known as Prince Andrew, was stripped of his titles and evicted from his royal residence due to his connection with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and sexual assault allegations against him detailed in Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre‘s posthumous memoir.
Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, are visiting Nigeria for a series of events in Lagos, promoting the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, from November 17 to 23. Body language expert Darren Stanton noticed that the 61-year-old is becoming more confident as he takes on more engagements after spending years away from the spotlight.

Darren, speaking on behalf of Betfair Slots, noted, “Prince Edward is clearly taking on a fuller public role, and it’s evident that both he and Sophie are having their diaries expanded as the Royal Family prepares for the future. In bringing them forward, we’re seeing Edward step out of the relative quiet he’s occupied for years.”
Prince Edward is the youngest child of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, brother of King Charles III, Princess Anne, and Andrew.
While his shyness remains evident through his “small, self-soothing gestures and gentle hesitancy in front of the cameras,” there are noticeable signs of growth as Prince Edward becomes more comfortable in the spotlight, pointing to a potential increase in engagements in the future.
Darren notes, “He often tucks his hand into his coat or fidgets with his fingers,” which may be signs of nervousness. However, the expert explains, “he can look slightly anxious, as if still adjusting to the spotlight. Yet we’re also seeing clear signs of development.”
For example, he explains, “In Nigeria, he and the President were subtly matching each other’s posture – leaning in, angling their bodies toward one another. This kind of mirroring suggests genuine trust and rapport, and it shows how Edward is beginning to find comfort in these interactions.”
When it comes to his wife Sophie, the specialist says that her “more extroverted confidence” pairs “beautifully” with his “quiet, unassuming manner.” He says, “Where she brings ease and outward warmth, he brings a thoughtful, understated presence.”
The body language professional touches on how Edward’s naturally introverted demeanor is balanced by his wife’s outgoing and charming personality, mirroring the dynamic of William and Kate, positioning them as more active members of the monarchy between Andrew’s fall from grace and William’s future reign.
It seems that the Duke of Edinburgh is “growing into his role at his own pace.” Darren observes that “the fidgeting, the tentative expressions are still there, but we can also see the beginnings of a more assured version of him emerging.”
Prince Edward seems to be taking on more official duties after King Charles stripped his brother, the former Duke of York, of his royal titles. While Andrew denies any wrongdoing and all allegations against him, the disgraced royal has been under intense scrutiny following the publication of Virginia’s posthumous memoir, which details allegations of sexual assault against him.
