Prince Harry’s harsh criticism of his disgraced uncle is now haunting him as Prince Andrew faces fresh controversy.
When Meghan initially entered the Royal Family following her marriage to Harry, anticipation filled the atmosphere – with the Sussexes, alongside Prince William and Princess Kate, quickly earning the nickname the “Fab Four.”
Nevertheless, away from public view, circumstances weren’t as perfect as they appeared. While Harry and Meghan launched a public relations campaign during their official appearances, handling their Royal responsibilities with ease, they were privately facing challenges, with Meghan subsequently disclosing she suffered mental health struggles and contemplated suicide.
Relationships were also deteriorating with other key royals, with Harry acknowledging prior to their departure from the UK that he and his brother were pursuing “different paths.”
Their announcement of wanting to cease full-time Royal duties created waves of shock throughout the country.
After the late Queen and her counselors determined there would be no “partial involvement” arrangement for the pair, numerous privileges of their Royal status, including their police protection, were quickly removed – creating a sharp contrast with the discredited Prince Andrew, who finds himself once more facing intense examination over his numerous controversies.
In his memoir, Prince Harry claimed that it was a complete shock to him when their taxpayer-funded security was withdrawn in 2020.
At the time, the couple was in Canada with their young son, Prince Archie. Borders were rapidly closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and their location had been made public.
They felt like “sitting ducks,” but help came from an unexpected place.
Hollywood tycoon, Tyler Perry, offered the Sussex family both his private security team and his mansion as a temporary refuge, providing them with a safe haven.
However, Harry disclosed in his memoir that one of the main reasons he assured Meghan their security would not be removed was because of his disgraced uncle, Prince Andrew.

On Friday, Andrew announced that he will voluntarily relinquish his duke title and Royal honors after a 10-minute phone call with his “weary” older brother, King Charles III. However, he has not been a working Royal for six years.
King Charles’s wayward younger brother withdrew from public duty in 2019, following a Newsnight interview where he discussed allegations of sexual assault, which he vehemently denies, and his long-standing friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Nevertheless, he kept his police protection, despite being embroiled in controversy.
Harry, obviously furious about the ruling, penned in his autobiography, “Despite being involved in an embarrassing scandal, accused of having sexually abused a young woman, nobody had suggested removing his security. People may have a lot of grievances towards us, but sexual offenses weren’t one of them.”
Based on reports, Andrew’s police protection wasn’t withdrawn until 2022, though the late Queen continued covering his private security costs.
King Charles maintained this arrangement initially, before the monarch allegedly ceased this funding in 2024, in a bid to pressure Andrew into vacating Royal Lodge.
