Queen Camilla is said to be “leading the anti-York faction” within the Royal Family, and is calling for Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie to give up their royal titles and be removed from the line of succession.
According to a royal source, the Queen, 78, is unwavering in her belief that the York sisters, as well as their parents, should be distanced from the Firm in the wake of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, and has been “instrumental” in pushing King Charles to take action.
The source claimed Camilla’s “attitude is that they are all a stain on the monarchy”, which was apparently made clear by the absence of her name from Eugenie’s pregnancy announcement.
“His Majesty The King has been informed and is delighted with the news,” Buckingham Palace’s statement said, with no mention of his wife.
Previous pregnancy announcements had included a mention of both Eugenie, 36, and husband Jack Brooksbank’s wider families, including Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson.
“[Queen Camilla] took a back seat on the scandal for quite a while out of deference to the King’s familial loyalties and to his health,” the source told the Daily Mail.
“But as the King’s health has improved, she was instrumental in pushing him to act.”
Royal journalist Phil Dampier added to the newspaper that Camilla’s hard stance derives from her work with survivors of abuse.
“It’s deeply embarrassing and difficult for her to be associated with the Yorks and their sordid past,” he said.
While the York sisters have not been accused of wrongdoing, they have been caught up in the fallout from their parents’ involvement with Jeffrey Epstein.
Beatrice and Eugenie were named in the US Department of Justice’s Epstein files, and it’s claimed they joined their mother in meeting with him days after his release from prison in 2009.
Prince William and Princess Kate have also failed to acknowledge Eugenie’s baby news, and the York sisters were absent from their Buckingham Palace garden party last week.
William, 43, is said to be encouraging the King to distance the Yorks from the institution, but Charles remains “very fond” of his nieces.
Eugenie’s third child is due this summer. She and her husband are already parents to sons August, five, and Ernest, two.
The new baby will not have a royal title or HRH status, but will be 15th in line to the throne, displacing Prince Edward who, unlike the Yorks, is a working royal.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor remains eighth in the line of succession despite being stripped of his royal titles and privileges.
