Curtis Jackson, better known as 50 Cent, explores a Connecticut murder mystery in the latest episode of his new series.
“50 Ways to Catch a Killer with 50 Cent” is a true-crime series, produced and hosted by Jackson, that takes viewers through a “deep journey inside investigative units as they unravel real-life murder mysteries,” according to a news release.
The series premiered on the Fox Nation streaming platform on Sept. 16. Episode three of the series, titled “Step Back,” follows the story of former Ellington resident Connie Dabate, whose death became known as the “Fitbit murder.” The episode premiered on Sept. 23 and is still available to stream on Fox Nation.
Connie Dabate was found dead in her and her husband’s Ellington home two days before Christmas in 2015. Almost 16 months later, her husband, Richard Dabate, was arrested for her murder.
Richard Dabate claimed he interrupted a home invasion and the suspect tied him up and killed his wife before fleeing. But Connie Dabate’s Fitbit showed that she had stopped moving about an hour before her husband told police he believed she had been killed, an arrest warrant said.
The episode includes interviews with former WFSB-TV reporter Courtney Zieller, who recounted covering the murder scene and how residents of the town were “terrified” and how she had a feeling that “something more was definitely going on here.”
Retired Connecticut State Police Detective Jeffrey Payette said that this was “probably the most difficult case” to investigate in his 20-year career. Connie Dabate’s friend and neighbor Peggy Giotsas recalled how she became “hysterical” after finding out she was dead.

The episode includes photos of the evidence, including blood at the crime scene, Richard Dabate zip-tied and Connie Dabate’s dead body (with her face blurred out). It also has a timeline of the murder investigation.
Richard Dabate was sentenced in 2022 to 65 years in prison after a 22-day trial.
He appealed the conviction, contending that Tolland State’s Attorney Matthew Gedansky had engaged in prosecutorial misconduct. The state’s highest court agreed, citing four instances when Gedansky went astray of the rules of conduct during Dabate’s trial in their 62-page ruling issued this March. However, the justices concluded that none of the instances had a significant impact on the outcome and upheld his conviction.
Aside from the episode, Jackson has connections to the Nutmeg State through a mansion he formerly owned in Farmington. In 2023, Gov. Ned Lamont declared it 50 Cent Day to honor him performing at the Xfinity Theatre.
