Rave Preservation Project, the online archive dedicated to documenting global rave culture, has launched a new directory, as well as discovery tools in order to improve the user experience.

The newly launched directory is billed by Rave Preservation Project as a hub for discovery, helping artists, promoters, labels, venues and other members of the electronic music scene reach a wider audience. Listings can now include media links, enabling website visitors to access archival music and video content from YouTube, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Spotify and Apple Music in one place.

Updated galleries will also make it easier for users to browse, explore and preserve visual memorabilia across the website, while further improvements have been made to the search function.

Founded in 2013 by Oregon-based archivist Matthew Johnson, Rave Preservation Project is a digital archive that contains over 40,000 items of rave memorabilia, including flyers, posters, and artwork. The website has expanded in the years since its launch to allow figures within the electronic music scene to establish their own pages and log their work within the industry.

Speaking about the updates and their continued work, the Rave Preservation Project team said: “Electronic music culture is often spread across social platforms, short-lived posts, and fragmented links. Rave Preservation Project is building a more durable system that helps people find artists, preserve memorabilia, and experience content without leaving the platform.”

A collection of rare rave memorabilia from the ‘Members Only’ archive is currently up for auction, with an estimated value of £80,000.

Last year, collector Dave Nicholson curated a new book of acid house and rave flyers from 1988–89, published by Velocity Press. Read DJ Mag’s interview with Nicholson here.
