Prince Harry‘s relationship with Prince William was reportedly “doomed” before Meghan Markle entered the royal fold, according to one royal expert. The brothers, who were once thought to share a close bond, are said to have had a strained relationship for some time.
Christopher Andersen, who is the author of KATE! The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen recently told Page Six that there was “all this tension” as the brothers were growing up in the Firm, with Harry said to be aware that he was “lesser than” compared to his older brother.
According to Mr Andersen, Harry was “made aware” of his lower rank compared to William.
Speaking to the publication, the author said: “People didn’t really acknowledge the fact that there was all this tension between Harry and William ever since they were small children, wrestling in the back of the car.”
Harry previously detailed how he was treated in comparison to William as children, including that he was given a smaller bedroom space than the heir.
He wrote in Spare: “My half of the room was far smaller, less luxurious.
“I never asked why. I didn’t care. But I also didn’t need to ask.”
After he began dating Meghan in 2016, Harry then detailed how their relationship deteriorated further – with the brothers even having a physical altercation over his then-girlfriend.
Describing a confrontation at his London home in 2019, Harry wrote that William called Meghan “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”, which Harry calls a “parrot[ing of] the press narrative” about his wife.
Harry and William are not thought to have been on speaking terms for a number of years.
