Joshua Allen, the winner of the US dance competition show So You Think You Can Dance in 2008, has tragically passed away at the age of 36. His family confirmed his passing on Tuesday (October 1), requesting “privacy and prayers” during this difficult time.
Tributes have been pouring in for Joshua from his celebrity friends, including Emmanuel Hurd, who had a long-standing friendship with the dancer.
He expressed his shock over Joshua’s death to TMZ, describing him as a “very honest, real person” who was candid about his struggles. Hurd added: “He didn’t always do things the way that everybody thought he should, but that’s why he was a winner,”. Fans of the show also took to social media to express their grief.

The No Air routine was one of my favorites. “Allen won the fourth season of So You Think You Can Dance in 2006, where he competed against Stephen “tWitch” Boss.
Despite being competitors, the two became close friends after the show.Sadly, Boss also passed away in 2022 at the age of 40.
His death was ruled a suicide.At the time of Boss’s death, Allen paid tribute to his friend, referring to him as a “brother.”
“This isn’t goodbye more so I’ll see you later,” Allen wrote in his caption.
Allen revealed that prior to his stint on So You Think You Can Dance, he had taken modern dance and ballet classes but lacked formal dance training.
When asked by Entertainment Weekly about his plans for the $250,000 prize money, he said: “I want to save [the $250,000 prize] and have it grow.
I’m going to move out to L.A., of course, and follow my career.”.
Post-show, Allen showcased his dancing skills in the 2010 movie Step Up 3 and also featured in the second season of Oxygen’s reality show Dance Your A** Off as a professional dancer.
