After Taylor Swift released her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, to record-breaking numbers on Oct. 3, 2025, fans were quick to theorize which songs from the high-energy tracklist might be tagged for a wider release down the line.
The first answer came fast, as the melodic and moody “The Fate of Ophelia” was confirmed as the lead single the same day the album dropped. An accompanying music video premiered in theaters nationwide alongside her album release party experience, and the dazzling short was one of her most ambitious yet, incorporating many familiar faces who appeared onstage with her during The Eras Tour.
With regards to a follow-up, fans waited patiently as autumn turned to winter, the new year coming and going without a hint at what the next single might be. Then, on Jan. 12, we got our answer. The singer-songwriter officially selected the upbeat and romantic “Opalite” as her sophomore Showgirl selection—and this week, she revealed when fans can expect the music video via a countdown clock on her official website.
While the music video for “Opalite” officially premieres tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 6, at 8 a.m. ET, it won’t be available to watch on YouTube—at least, not immediately. If you’re hoping to see it as soon as it debuts Friday morning, you’ll need a subscription to either Spotify Premium or Apple Music, as the video will be available exclusively on those platforms first.
But don’t fret, my Swifite friends! If you don’t have either subscription, you’ll still be able to watch the video; you’ll just have to be a little more patient, as it will go wide two days later on YouTube this Sunday, Feb. 8, at 8 a.m. ET.
And the song’s selection as a single shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise for fans, as Swift’s been vocal about what that particular track means to her, as well as her fiancé, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
“I think that’s [Travis’s] favorite [song]. He loves that one,” Swift told Capital FM Breakfast amid the album’s release last fall. She went on to explain the concept behind the tune, adding, “I have favorite words, favorite phrases, things that I’ll put in an endless file of lyrics that I’m constantly going to go and cherry-pick from when I’m writing. I had written down the word ‘opalite’ because I learned that it’s actually a man-made opal—opal can be man-made just like diamonds—and Travis’s birthstone is an opal.”
