Devil Wears Prada 2 costume designer Molly Rogers is recalling what it was like working on the movie
At an event with Fashionphile, she said she had a hard time convincing Tucci to wear a bag in the film
Rogers said she really “battled” with Tucci over her opinion and said he also didn’t love the idea of wearing a brooch
The Devil Wears Prada 2 costume designer Molly Rogers and Stanley Tucci didn’t see eye to eye about a few of his accessories in the new film.
Rogers explained that she worked with Fashionphile, a company that sells used designer items, to assemble accessories for the movie, and it really helped her out when she was trying to get everyone’s looks together.
“I really want a green Goyard bag for Stanley when we go to Italy, and it would be here,” she said at a recent Fashionphile event, giving credit to the rental service for sourcing the pieces she needed.

Though Rogers liked the idea of Tucci, 65, carrying a bag in the film, she said she had to really convince him that it was worth wearing.
“I had such a battle with him over carrying a bag. And I battled with him, like really battled. I wouldn’t call it healthy conversation. I battled with him over a bag, and I battled with him over brooches,” she said. “He just felt like I was pushing it. And I kept saying, ‘You’re going to look really flat on the red carpet.'”
Tucci’s character Nigel wears the jeweled accessory for an event when they travel to Italy, and Rogers knew he needed some sparkle to stand out from the crowd.
“And then Town & Country comes out last week, and he’s on the cover with three brooches on. I called him and said, ‘Traitor,'” she added with a laugh.
Rogers then explained why she wanted Tucci to have the Goyard bag, saying that many of her friends have stylishly rocked them.
“Some of my best gay friends have, like, Russian doll sizes of the Goyards — a little change purse, a little pill purse — and it goes up in sizes, and I wanted Stanley to do the same: small, medium, large, and [I] couldn’t talk him in to it,” she said. “A lot of times you don’t get your way.”
Rogers said she also had a “devastating” moment when she learned that one of her favorite outfits in the movie got cut. The costume designer said she put together about 28 looks for Meryl Streep, around 46 for Anne Hathaway and 16 for Emily Blunt, joking that Blunt was disappointed she had fewer than the rest.

She said she was told that her favorite look wouldn’t make it into the movie because of a timing issue.
“They called me and said, ‘Are you sitting down?’ They were really afraid of what I was going to do. I would go on a rampage. It made the movie too long, and so cutting it supposedly made the movie better, but I’m not so sure,” she said.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in theaters now.
