Things to do, events and entertainment in Wilmington, NC

OK, so spring may not have arrived just yet, but we can definitely see it from here.

This weekend in Wilmington brings a nice mix of events, including a couple of festivals and even a parade where you can enjoy the (hopefully nice) weather.

Concert season hasn’t ramped up just yet, but there are some opportunities to catch some live tunes. Plus, we’ve got a ton of good theater on stage this weekend, so don’t miss that.

ALL WEEKEND

‘To Kill a Mockingbird’

Feb. 19-28 at Thalian Hall: Former Wilmington actor Cullen Moss (Netflix’s “Outer Banks,” HBO Max’s “The Staircase”) returns to the Port City to star as Atticus Finch in the play based on the famed novel by Harper Lee. 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19-21 and 26-28, 2 p.m. Feb. 22. 910-632-2285.

N.C. First in Freedom Festival

Feb. 21-28: Weeklong celebration will commemorate the Wilmington area’s role in the American Revolution as part of the America250 celebration. This weekend’s main events are in Topsail Beach and at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site. Details at NCFirstInFreedomFestival.com.

‘Come From Away’

Feb. 19-22 at Thalian Hall (studio theater) and Feb. 26-March 1 at North Front Theatre: And Seen Theatrical Productions presents this musical about when thousands of airline passengers were forced to land in tiny Gander, Newfoundland, in 2001 due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19-21, 2 p.m. Feb. 21-22. 910-632-2285.

‘One Slight Hitch’

Feb. 19-March 8 at Brunswick Little Theatre: Comic play by North Carolina actor/writer/stand-up Lewis Black — known as the voice of Anger in the “Inside Out” movies — is a farce set on a woman’s wedding day. Chaos ensues when her ex-boyfriend crashes the nuptials. 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19-21, 27-28 and March 6-7, 3 p.m. Feb. 22, March 1 and March 8.

David Drake

Feb. 20-21 at Dead Crow Comedy Room: Very funny stand-up comic has been seen on Comedy Central, HBO and the online Don’t Tell Comedy series. Drake has material about being a father of questionable ability, and about how his cat, whose Instagram page got picked up by Meow Mix, makes more money than him. 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Feb. 20-21, tickets are $24 and $36.

‘White Rabbit Red Rabbit’

Feb. 19-22 at Thalian Hall (studio theater): Big Dawg Productions presents a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience from Iranian writer Nassim Soleimanpour. His funny, affecting play is performed each night by a different actor who takes the stage, is given a sealed envelope and discovers the script in front of an audience for the first time. 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19-21, 3 p.m. Feb. 22.

‘Little Women’

Feb. 19-22 at the Mainstage Theatre in the Cultural Arts Building, UNCW campus: The University of North Carolina Wilmington’s theater department presents the stage version of Louisa May Alcott’s famous novel. Read our review. 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19-21, 2 p.m. Feb. 22. Tickets are $6-$14.

FRIDAY

Fisk Jubilee Singers

Feb. 20 at Kenan Auditorium: Historic Black vocal group from Fisk University in Tennessee has been touring the country (and world) nearly continuously since forming in 1871. 7:30 p.m. Friday, tickets are $31-$35.

SATURDAY

Stop Light Observations

Feb. 21 at Bourgie Nights: Alt-rock band blends elements of classic rock, funk and more. 8 p.m. doors, 9 p.m. show, $30 in advance, $35 day of show.

Wilmington Record Show

Feb. 21 at Waterline Brewing: Annual show features 20+ vendors of vinyl records and related products. With tunes from DJ RizzyBeats and Wilmington singer Delia Stanley. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, free.

B.A.D. Coffee Crawl

Feb. 21 in the Brooklyn Arts District: Establishments in the Brooklyn Arts District will be serving up coffee drinks, both alcoholic and non, during this annual event. Noon-5 p.m. Saturday, free.

WilmingtoNColor Festival

Feb. 21 at 1898 Memorial Park: Festival for Black History Month will feature Black history bus tours; HBCU informational booths; games and kids’ activities; vendors, speeches, musical performances and more. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Free, donations accepted.

Divine Divas

Feb. 21 at the Terraces on Sir Tyler: Ninth annual fundraiser for Thalian Association Community Theatre features top Wilmington theater performers in a musical revue of songs by well-known artists. With food, drinks, silent auction and more. 6 p.m. Saturday, tickets are $107.

Cape Fear Heart Ball

Feb. 21 at the Country Club of Landfall: Annual Wilmington gala raises money for the American Heart Association. With dinner, live and silent auction, dancing and more. 6-11 p.m. Saturday, $250.

Songs From the Road Band

Feb. 21 at Live at Ted’s: Bluegrass ensemble from Western North Carolina has tight harmonies, quick pickin’ and stirring original songs. 8 p.m. Saturday, $33.

SUNDAY

Sean Binkley memorial concert

Feb. 22 at Reggie’s 42nd Street Tavern: Concert will serve as a memorial service and celebration of life for Sean Binkley of Wilmington band Sean & Her Dilemma. A half-dozen acts will play, including The Wild Ones, Goldielux, Exploding Math Lab, The Temp Agency and the magician Mike Casey. Sean & Her Dilemma will perform with guest singers. 4:30 p.m. Sunday, donations requested.

Floating Lantern Ceremony

Feb. 22 at Cameron Art Museum: Third time should be the charm for this annual event, which has been postponed twice so far due to weather. With hot chocolate, light bites and live music. 3-7 p.m. Sunday. Live music and lantern decorating start at 3 p.m., lantern floating at 5 p.m. Lantern sleeves are $20. Free to attend, discounted fee for gallery admission all day.

Sunset Park Mardi Gras Parade

Feb. 22 in Sunset Park: Annual parade in this historic Wilmington neighborhood will feature something called the Mystic Krewe of Poseiden. If you wanna know, you gotta go. 2 p.m. Sunday, free.
