One of the most prolific and noteworthy filmmakers of our time, Tim Burton sees the world through his own distinct lens. His love of classic horror aesthetics and off-kilter heroes shines through in all of his works, from his first film, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, to his generation-defining take on the Batman mythology, 1989’s Batman and its 1992 sequel, Batman Returns, as well as original films like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and The Corpse Bride.
Burton’s life and career get a turn in the spotlight with Tim Burton: Life in the Line, a multi-part documentary featuring interviews with friends and collaborators like Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter, Danny Elfman, Danny DeVito, Christoph Waltz, and more.
The trailer for the documentary series promises an in-depth look at his work, from his earliest drawings to his greatest blockbusters. However, the series won’t play on a traditional streaming platform. You might think Netflix would play home to this one, given that the streamer is the home of his current project, the hit Addams Family series, Wednesday.
But no, Tim Burton: Life in the Line will actually debut on its own bespoke website, “TimBurtonLifeInTheLine.com,” and it won’t be cheap. A five-day rental of the four-episode series will cost you $25, or they can be purchased outright for $40. However, if you shell out $75, you can buy a super-special-ultimate-omega edition of the documentary, which, per Deadline’s writeup of the release, includes hours of extra footage.
Tim Burton: Life in the Line will debut on Halloween, natch.
