Randy Travis and Tim McGraw recently shared a heartwarming moment backstage that has social media buzzing.
In a moment captured and shared to Instagram, the pair can be seen singing part of Travis’ country classic, “On The Other Hand” along with Travis’ nephew, Timothy Wayne.
“A moment we’ll never forget…” reads the caption on the IG post on Travis’ account. “Tim McGraw is one of the best out there! And how about his nephew Timothy Wayne? Y’all go check him out.”
On the mend
Travis suffered a stroke in 2012 and is still limited in his ability to communicate, but he is putting on a tour with the help of Wayne, his wife, and his original band.
The “More Life Tour starring Randy Travis” kicked off in Denver, Colorado, last month.
James Dupre serves as a guest vocalist on the tour. He sings Travis’ songs while the audience is taken on a trip down memory lane, recounting a career that began in 1979 via video highlights.
Although Travis is not able to perform, he interacts with the band and engages the crowd along with his wife, Mary, according to the press release announcing the tour.
On the road
The tour is scheduled to be in Peoria, Illinois, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, this week before heading to Missouri this weekend for shows in St. Joseph and Branson.
“The More Life Tour celebrates something so much more than a musical moment in time,” Travis is quoted as saying in a press release announcing the tour. “It’s a gift to me to spend time with my fans, and my band, as James Dupre perfectly presents the songs that best define my career. We look forward to seeing you all somewhere along the way.”
It is set to run through late November with stops all over the country, including Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Ohio, Tennessee, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, North Carolina, and Kentucky.
“I’m thrilled and honored to hit the road again with my hero and friend, Randy Travis,” Dupre said in the release. “I’m looking forward to meeting and singing along with all the Randy Travis fans in 2025.”
More dates for the tour were announced in March, suggesting it has been a success.
Travis also released a new song, “Horses in Heaven,” earlier this year by employing AI-driven voice-cloning technology to augment his diminished singing abilities.
Two of the best
Travis’ career not only spans more than four decades but many eras of country music.
He first achieved fame in the 1980s, recording heartfelt, twangy ballads that more resembled the traditional country songs of earlier decades than what was dominating the airwaves at the time.
The North Carolina native has won seven Grammy Awards and was named the Academy of Country Music top male vocalist in 1986 and ’87.
McGraw came on the scene in the early 1990s with songs such as “It’s Your Love,” “Just To See You Smile,” and “Live Like You Were Dying.”
He has also appeared in multiple major films, including “The Blind Side” and “Friday Night Lights.”
