Tina Knowles is sharing the tip her granddaughter Blue Ivy gave her sister Rumi when it came to performing with their superstar mom Beyoncé.
The matriarch, 71, spoke with Sherri Shepherd on the Sherri show on Monday, Oct. 27, and was asked about how her granddaughter Blue Ivy, 13, handled some of the criticism she received during her first appearance on stage with mom Beyoncé during her Renaissance tour. Knowles, who clarified that Blue Ivy was dancing for 70,000 people per night, said that her granddaughter learned to be resilient.
“Because you have to be taught that. Kids don’t learn it from just accident. You have to say to them, ‘It’s more important to be a good person.’ And that you got to work for what you get,” said Knwoles. “Nobody’s going to just hand it to you because you are somebody’s daughter or because they like you. You have to work hard.”

She was then asked about her other granddaughter, Rumi, 8, who appeared alongside Blue Ivy and Beyoncé during the Cowboy Carter Tour. Shepherd asked Knowles whose idea it was to get Rumi on stage.
“Who do you think? Rumi’s!” joked Knowles. “Listen, Rumi has been asking for the last three or four years, ‘I’m ready Mama, I’m ready!’ And her mom was like, ‘Well, this is a song where you can come out and be yourself on.'”
The proud grandmother went on to say that after seeing some comments, her older granddaughter offered a little advice to her sister.
“And listen, she would come out, and the first night, she was so excited. People were making all these crazy comments. And Blue was like, ‘Rumi, you might need to calm it down,’ ” recalled Knowles.

“So by maybe like the third or the fourth [show], she would pick out her own outfits at night. You could pick them out,” she continued. “Ty would come and she’d be like, ‘No, I don’t like that. I don’t want that.’”
“And I said, ‘What are you going to do tonight?’ Cause I was encouraging her to do a little twirl or wink or whatever. And she said, ‘Be myself.’ So she was! It was really good for her confidence.”
This past June, Knowles uploaded a video on Instagram of Blue Ivy finishing her makeup look. Set to Beyoncé’s “II Hands II Heaven,” the teenager was just out of frame as only her hand could be seen applying a bold red lipstick color to her grandmother’s lips.
“Today I wanted to attend the @bluemarineparis runway show to see my grandson @iamjulezjsmith walk in the show! !” she wrote in her caption. “I did not have a Makeup Artist so I asked my talented granddaughter Blue Ivy to do my makeup. She did a fabulous job. ❤️❤️ what yal think?”
