TV celebs advocate for a safe and green Diwali

Diwali has always been about family, togetherness, and the beautiful memories one carry forward every year. This Diwali, our TV actors are sharing their heartfelt thoughts on cherishing family traditions, reliving the beautiful memories that make the festival truly special and embracing green Diwali to make celebrations more meaningful.

Let’s focus on lighting up others’ livesSubha Rajput, who plays Devi Parvati in the show Shiv Shakti- Tap Tyaag Taandav gets nostalgic talking about Diwali celebrations. She says, “We used to celebrate the festival in a very organic way, visit our relatives, meet our cousins, play Antakshari all night and have fun. I belong to Jammu and have lot of great memories of the festival. Now a lot has changed. Keeping the current situation in mind, I definitely support the concept of green Diwali and believe in saving the resources and keeping the planet safe as much as possible because the way we heading the future looks really scary and dark. I do love celebrating the festival but I don’t believe in creating noise or air pollution. It’s about cherishing the home coming of Lord Ram, togetherness and family reunion and it can be celebrated in a greener way. Rather than just lighting up the sky, we should be focusing on lighting up others lives and that can be only possible if we keep our surroundings safe and save our Mother Nature.”

Bollywood Stars Celebrate Diwali with Family and Friends

Green Diwali is about celebrating with awarenessDivyanka Tripathi shares, “When I was in school, I used to burst a huge heap of crackers with my cousins and friends. Back then, we were completely unaware of how much harm it caused to the environment. Thanks to the good school I studied in, I became a part of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF India) and got actively involved in environmental awareness and conservation activities. That’s when my perspective changed. I began celebrating festivals more consciously – Diwali with minimal crackers, Holi with reduced water use, and even ensuring that Pooja waste was discarded responsibly at designated collection points. For me, “Green Diwali” isn’t about ruining the festive vibe, it’s about celebrating with awareness. We all make mistakes, and that’s okay! What matters is that we learn and try to minimize the damage our joy may cause to nature. When we celebrate responsibly, with adequate civic sense, the feeling of victory is greater.”

Naman Shaw

Let’s celebrate a Diwali that is inclusive for allNaman Shaw, who is playing the lead in show Mangal Lakshami, absolutely agrees with the concept of a Green Diwali. He says, “It’s the need of the hour if we want to save the planet. As a kid, I loved bursting firecrackers, but now the smoke and sound pollution they cause really irritate me. I think we should celebrate a Green Diwali, allowing only diyas and a few select firecrackers that don’t make noise and produce minimal smoke, with time restrictions in place. The elderly and animals are particularly affected by the pollution and noise, so it’s crucial we consider their well-being. Let’s make Diwali a festival that’s gentle on the environment and inclusive for all. Festivals transport me back to my carefree childhood days, filled with joy and excitement. Growing up in a joint family with many cousins, Diwali was a highlight of the year. We’d wear matching outfits, buy firecrackers together, and celebrate with puja at our family shop. The best part was bursting crackers on the terrace with my cousins and enjoying sweets and dry fruits as gifts for weeks to come. Those were truly special times, and the memories still bring a smile to my face.”

Radhika Muthukumar

I use natural colours to make rangoli Radhika Muthukumar, who is currently seen in the show Binddii as Kajal, says, “Diwali brings a lot of good memories, always used to be excited about new clothes, family get together, yummy homemade sweets and food, lighting diyas and having fun with cousins. What’s new nowadays is celebration with sustainable practices keeping the future generation in mind. I am in favour of green diwali. Noise and pollution free diwali. I use clay diya flowers and natural colors to make rangoli, celebrate the festival with my loved ones and friends, play games, dance and sing. Celebration with no regrets is my mantra.”

Juhi Parmar

Diwali is the festival of lights, not of pollution or noise Juhi Parmar has always been concerened about environment and love conserving eco-system. She says, “I totally support green Diwali and have been following it too for quite sometime now. In childhood sometimes we used to go to my grandparents’ home during Diwali and the entire family used to get together there. All cousins and all elders, celebrating the festival together in it’s truest and simplest forms. It used to be great fun with loads of festivities. It’s the festival of lights and not pollution or noise that makes life difficult for everyone.”

Sonal Panvar

Look for eco-friendly ways to celebrate DiwaliSonal Panvar, who is seen the show Happu Ki Ultan Paltan says, “Diwali is one of those festivals that always brings back countless memories. As kids we used to get dressed up and visit relatives to exchange sweets. Coming from a small town, that sense of community and togetherness was everything. All our cousins would gather, laugh, eat, and celebrate late into the night. I completely support the idea of celebrating a Green Diwali, but I also believe that a little fun doesn’t harm anyone. Crackers have been a part of many celebrations, be it weddings, cricket victories, or other festivals so I feel completely banning them just for Diwali doesn’t seem fair. The key lies in moderation. Enjoy responsibly without going overboard. We can also focus on eco-friendly ways to celebrate like light clay diyas, support local artisans, and bring back the essence of traditional Diwali. That’s how we can truly make the festival meaningful and sustainable.”
