Whoopi Goldberg thinks it’s “very easy” to comprehend why Nicki Minaj has thrown her support behind the president.
In recent months, the Super Bass singer, 43, has surprised many by embracing the MAGA movement. She has even declared Donald Trump “the best President for Black Americans.”
During the Thursday, May 14 broadcast of The View, the panel weighed in on Nicki’s explanation for her shift toward Trump. The rapper recently revealed that her perspective changed after her gated $20 million Los Angeles residence became the subject of multiple swatting incidents. The “frightening” experience prompted her to contact California Governor Gavin Newsom seeking assistance with her predicament. Unfortunately, she never heard back.
“He just completely ignored me, with all the money I spent in taxes,” she told TIME magazine.
While Newsom remained silent, Republican Anna Luna responded and “shocked” Nicki.
“I’d never seen anyone in politics treat me that way,” she noted, explaining that the gesture empowered her to finally “go public as part of Trump’s MAGA movement.”
Nevertheless, The View co-hosts offered alternative explanations for her connection with the president’s fanbase.
Joy Behar suspects it relates to her pending U.S. citizenship, while Sunny Hostin theorizes her alignment stems from her family’s legal troubles, including her husband Kenneth Petty’s sexual assault charges.
Whoopi Goldberg remarked, “People have the right to vote for who they want to but you can’t make it this easy to point out the reasons why you may have done it.”
While acknowledging other factors may exist, she continued, “All of these things have little to do with how his being is affecting all of us.
“We’re all in it together. Doesn’t matter, it’s white women, Black women, it’s Spanish women, it’s white men, it’s gay folks, it’s all these people. He’s hitting farmers, he’s hitting everybody.”

Concluding the conversation, Whoopi directed a statement toward the rapper, “So Nicki, if you’re okay that he’s dismantling a lot of the reason you came to this country, then you do what you need to do.”
Minaj initially showed support for the Trump administration in November 2025 by reposting a TikTok video from the official White House account highlighting President Trump’s accomplishments since returning to office for a second term.
The remarks included, “No men in women’s sports,” alluding to the administration’s continued opposition to transgender women competing in women’s athletics.
His “number one fan” has since appeared at multiple political gatherings including the Trump Accounts Summit and Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest 2025.
