Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck may have split for the second time, but that doesn’t mean their business rapport has come to an end.
Lopez’s latest divorce from Affleck, 53, was finalized in January — but in a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the acclaimed singer, 56, opened up about a unique collaboration that took place during their breakup: The Oscar-winning filmmaker assisted her in making the big-screen adaptation of Kiss of the Spider Woman, which will release on October 10.
“The movie wouldn’t have been made if it wasn’t for him and Artist Equity,” Lopez said in the interview that aired Sunday, September 28. “I will always give him that credit, because they financed it.”
The Golden Globe-nominated actress continued, “I told him this was the role I was born to play and I wanted to do it, and he was like, ‘OK,’ and he helped make it happen.”
Lopez also opened up in Sunday’s interview about how her relationship woes impacted her creative process during Kiss of the Spider Woman, as E! News noted.
“It was hard not to think about stuff, but it was like the best and the worst of times in a way because it was every moment on set and every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy. And then back home, it was not great,” she said. “It was just like, ‘How do I reconcile this?’ But you get through it. Honestly, I have to say it was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
The Grammy-nominated artist continued, “It helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow, become more self-aware. I’m a different person now than I was last year.”
Earlier this month, Lopez took to Instagram to share a series of snaps from her upcoming role in Kiss of the Spider Woman, in which she plays a movie star whose most famous role is that of a spider woman, capable of killing her lovers with a kiss, according to Variety.
