Welp, looks like we won’t be getting a Charli xcx tour documentary anytime soon. Though we will be getting a fictional tour movie from her—more on that in a sec.
During her recent interview with Vanity Fair, the Brat singer explained why she ultimately decided it wasn’t for her.
“I feel like my problem with a lot of musician documentaries is it often shows the musician coming up against some kind of opposition and eventually overcoming it to be the hero,” she explained of her decision to opt out. “And that’s just not been my experience, you know? Maybe it has been a lot of other people’s, and that’s awesome.”
That said, her film The Moment comes close. “It’s not a tour documentary or a concert film in any way, but the seed of the idea was conceived from this idea of being pressured to make one,” she explains. “It’s fiction, but it’s the realest depiction of the music industry that I’ve ever seen.”
Per Deadline, The Moment “follows a rising pop star as she navigates the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena-tour debut.” The A24 film stars Charli, as well as Kylie Jenner, Rachel Sennott, Kate Berlant, Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Hailey Benton Gates, Trew Mullen, Mel Ottenberg, Richard Perez, Isaac Powell, Rish Shah, Tish Weinstock, Michael Workéyè, Shygirl and A.G. Cook.
