The perfume aisle is about to feel less like a beach vacation and more like a hug. Fragrance experts say warm, creamy and edible-adjacent perfume scents are overtaking the crisp, fresh and clean profiles that dominated recent years, and the shift will reshape what shoppers reach for in 2026. If you have been loyal to ocean breezes or citrus splashes, here is why your next signature scent might smell like steamed rice, tea or a freshly baked cookie instead.

Why Warm Perfume Scents Are Replacing Fresh and Clean Fragrances

In a piece by Catharine Malzahn for New Beauty, she writes that “Nature-inspired fragrances seem to consistently spike in popularity this time of year, but fragrance experts say the notes gaining traction this year are more nuanced than traditional tropical, fruity and floral scents (though those are still sticking around as well).”

The pivot is partly about emotion. Shoppers want fragrance to do more than freshen. They want it to comfort. Octavia Morgan, a fragrance expert, told Kara Nesvig and Donya Momenian at Teen Vogue that “Edible comforts are tied to the return of cozy luxury. Consumers want scents that hug them, warm, creamy and nostalgic but with a modern, elevated twist that fits a more sophisticated lifestyle.”

What the New Cozy Perfume Notes Actually Smell Like

The headline ingredient list reads less like a botanical garden and more like a kitchen counter. Perfumer Joey Rosin told Teen Vogue that “I think we’re about to see a lot of fragrances boasting edible notes, but not outright sweet notes,” explaining that notes like steamed rice and coconut cream will appear in fragrances instead of more traditional gourmand notes like cotton candy and sugar. “People are leaning harder into huge edible notes in a way that would make someone blush ten years ago,” he said.

Creamy musks are also having a moment. In Allure, Jeniece Trizzino, vice president of innovation and physical product at Scentbird in New York City, said that “Creamy nuances are having a moment. These unique musks offer warmth and comfort while staying personal.”

Cozy does not have to mean obvious. Jasmina Aganovic, the founder of Future Society, told New Beauty that “Instead of straightforward floral bouquets or tropical fruits, people are exploring notes like tea, rainwater, moss, mineral accords and unusual botanicals. These fragrances feel more experiential and give people a sense of discovery.”

Move over clean laundry musks, the fragrance world has found its new obsession and it smells like a beehive in golden hour. Honey scent has emerged as 2026’s most sought-after fragrance trend, with perfumers and shoppers alike chasing the warm, nostalgic glow that only a well-blended nectar note can deliver. The shift makes sense. After […]

How the Cozy Perfume Trend Reflects What People Want to Feel

The thread running through every expert quote is mood. Cozy luxury, comfort and nostalgia are doing the heavy lifting that bright florals and ocean accords used to do. Think of the scent cues people describe when they say a space feels welcoming.

  • Fresh baked cookies
  • Grandma’s kitchen
  • Fireplace smoke
  • Cozy sweaters
  • Holiday gatherings
  • Coffee shops

Those are the emotional reference points 2026 perfumes are chasing. The new generation of cozy fragrances translates those memories through more refined materials, like creamy musks, rice, coconut cream, tea and mineral accords, rather than the candy-shop sweetness that defined earlier gourmand trends.

What the Shift Means for Perfume Shoppers in 2026

For anyone building a fragrance wardrobe, the practical takeaway is that “fresh and clean” is no longer the safe default. Expect launches to lean into warmth, skin-like musks and edible notes that read elevated rather than sugary. Floral and tropical scents are not disappearing, but they are sharing shelf space with perfumes designed to feel like a soft sweater on a cold morning.

If you want to test the trend without committing, start with a creamy musk or a tea-forward fragrance and see how it wears on your skin. The defining quality of 2026’s cozy perfume movement is not a single ingredient. It is the feeling of being wrapped up, and the experts say that is exactly the feeling shoppers are chasing.
