With the premiere of Boston Blue airing on Oct. 17, questions about whether or not Tom Selleck — who played Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods from 2010 through 2024 — would guest star on the show have started circulating again.
Selleck is not part of the spinoff, but there have been rumors that he could make a cameo appearance at some point. Now, actor Ernie Hudson, who plays Reverend Edwin Peters on Boston Blue, has spoken out about the possibility that fans could see Selleck on a future episode.
“That would be great,” Hudson told Us Weekly. “I’d love to work with Tom. I never have. Over the years, I’ve certainly admired his work. I admire his work and he’s still ready to do whatever.”
And Hudson isn’t the only star that would like to see Selleck on the new series. In an interview with Parade, actor Donnie Wahlberg was asked if Selleck could pop in — even by way of a FaceTime call.
“New York and Boston are really close,” Wahlberg told us in June. “They’re not that far apart. I like the way you asked the question. You covered a lot of possible ways for people to drop in on us. Yeah, ‘Blue Bloods’ is important to the audience, it’s important to me, it’s important to Sonequa [Martin-Green, Danny’s new partner]. She’s a ‘Blue Bloods’ fan. She’s my partner, and she’s a ‘Blue Bloods’ fan. She wants to keep that legacy alive, as well.”
