Woman’s Taylor Swift Halloween display goes viral

A Minneapolis homeowner is scaring up some interactive fun with their creative Taylor Swift “The Life of a Showghoul”- themed skeleton decorations this Halloween season.

Miranda Soukup’s lawn is decked out with a giant skeleton dressed as “Showgirl” era Swift, standing on a stage with a paparazzi skeleton snapping photos nearby, while Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce skeletons watch on from a “New Frights” podcast table. Close by is a graveyard of headstones of “ghosts” from Swift’s past, including Scooter Braun and Kanye West.

Soukup, a 32-year-old creative director, told ABC News she started planning her Halloween decorations about six months ago, but after Swift announced her 12th studio album in August, she scrapped her previous ideas and went all out to bring a ghoulish showgirl skeleton concept to life.

“I was like, ‘This is perfect.’ It lends itself to ‘The Life of a Showghoul’ so easily,” Soukup told ABC News. “From there, I was off to the races.”

She continued, “Every little photo or snippet that she released as the album lead-up came up, we brainstormed how we could incorporate that into the display, which was really fun.”

Soukup, a self-proclaimed “theme party gal,” said she already had plenty of items on hand and then mostly sourced the rest of the detailed decorations from her sister and her local neighborhood’s “Buy Nothing” group to build out the display.

“My sister and I basically prepped all of the decor and crafted a few weekends and set it all up in my garage, and then we were quick to set it up Oct. 1 and Oct. 2. I really wanted it up for the album release,” Soukup said.

Soukup called the final display — complete with a lineup of skeleton and ghostly versions of Swift’s discography — “a ghoulish graveyard of feathers and sparkles and bedazzle.”

“Taylor’s on a stage in her full sequined dress, with a big, feather boa around her and the big orange showgirl feathers on her head,” Soukup explained.

“Behind her, there’s a ‘New Heights,’ [or] a ‘New Frights’ podcast table with Jason and Travis [Kelce]. Travis has the album, like they did in the podcast release, and then Travis has these like hearts over his eyes and flowers for Taylor. And then on the right side of the yard, I have the graveyard … [with] ghosts of Taylor’s past.”

“It’s both ghostly and glitzy,” she added.

Soukup said many visitors have stopped by already by just to get a glimpse of the ghoulish Swift display, and she loves sharing custom album cover bookmarks and trading “showghoul” bracelets and pictures with them.

“It has been a nonstop flow of Swifties, and it’s so fun,” said Soukup, a big Swiftie herself. “Every single time we look out the window of our house, someone is out there taking pictures.”

“People are just so excited and positive,” Soukup added. “It just brings me so much joy to have people stop by and say hi and make it a part of their weekend or their day to just come enjoy it.”
