Woody Allen’s ex-wife Mia Farrow has spoken out after actress Diane Keaton’s death earlier this week, as she praised the Father of the Bride actress in a tribute.
The tribute is surprising given the pair’s complicated history, with Keaton dating director Woody Allen prior to Farrow marrying him. However, the complications arose in later life, after Keaton stood by Allen following allegations of abuse toward his daughter, Dylan Farrow.
With tributes pouring in from across Hollywood for Keaton from co-stars and fans, Farrow has praised the actress as she described her as “a rare and fascinating person.”
Keaton previously dated Woody Allen in the 1970s and later starred in some of his films. Farrow became Allen’s cinematic muse in the 1980s, sparking a 12-year long relationship that saw them adopt two children, daughter Dylan and son Moses. The pair also had a biological son, Ronan.
Complications in the relationship between the three Hollywood stars arose with daughter Dylan later accusing her father of abuse from age 7. Keaton has always stood firm in her friendship with Allen, saying in an interview in 2014, “I’m Woody’s friend and I’ve been Woody’s friend for 45 years. And nothing’s going to change that.”
Allen has always strenuously denied any wrongdoing and was never criminally charged. Allen is reportedly “extremely distraught and upset” by the passing of Keaton.
