LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — With a current expansion set to wrap up in December, Durango Casino & Resort will move ahead with a $385 million project beginning in January, adding a 36-lane bowling alley, a luxury movie theater, new restaurants and multiple entertainment venues, the company announced on Tuesday.
8 News Now reported the additions on Oct. 16 after documents were submitted to Clark County. A news release today said the project will take 18 months to complete.
Phase 2 in the resort’s development will also add 400 slot machines to an expanded casino area. When phase 1 is finished in December, 230 new slots will go into operation — 120 in a new high-limit area and bar. Phase 1 also included expanded parking to accommodate growth as expansion continues.
“Guests really have taken to the property and we’ve been very happy with the results so far,” Lorenzo Fertitta, director of Red Rock Resorts, said.
Frank Fertita III, CEO and chairman of the board, said it’s really a matter of giving their customers what they are asking for.
“The one thing that our customer base expects is all these other entertainment amenities like movie theaters and bowling and things of this nature,” he said.
When Durango opened in December 2023, officials said expansions were already in the works. A phase that has yet to be scheduled could expand hotel and convention space at the resort.
Red Rock Resorts, the corporate entity of Station Casinos, announced its third-quarter earnings on Tuesday. Red Rock has seen solid business while Strip resorts have had to navigate through lower tourism levels this year. Red Rock’s Las Vegas properties posted a ninth consecutive record for net revenue in the third quarter ($468.6 million) and record adjusted earnings ($209.4 million) — the fifth consecutive record quarter.
In total, phase 2 will expand the north side of the resort by 275,000 square feet.
Renovations are in full swing at Sunset Station and Green Valley Ranch. At Sunset, a $53 million project is bringing a new country-western bar/nightclub, a Mexican restaurant, a new center bar and a fully renovated casino floor. At Green Valley Ranch, a comprehensive refresh is underway. The west tower rooms will be complete in mid-November, and then the east tower work is expected to begin, extending into the summer of 2026.
Company officials have delayed making an announcement on the next property they will develop. That announcement is expected in late January.
