“We were meant to drive from LA back to Chicago to go back to school,” the Duchess said, but before she could continue, Courtney whispered, “We were meant to fly,” in an attempt to correct the 44-year-old.
“We were —. Yes, we were meant to fly,” Meghan remarked, correcting herself as the audience chuckled in the background.”
Meghan swiftly tried to brush her mishap off, continuing, “But no, here’s why we didn’t: because 9/11 happened on that same day. So the two of us ended up driving 30 hours over three days. 10 hours a day. From Los Angeles to Chicago, together at one of the most fragile, tender times in this country.”
However, it was an earlier moment that got tongues wagging, as Meghan interrupted her friend to correct how Courtney holds her microphone.
In the move, which has been called “awkward” and “rude,” Meghan grasps Courtney’s arm as the author starts to speak, and repositions the microphone towards her mouth.
“I could hold it for you,” Meghan said whilst laughing.”
Courtney then responded by saying, “This makes me so nervous,” before the pair laughed the situation off.
Responding to the “awkward” moment on social media, one person commented on X, “Awkward moment Meghan Markle interrupts bookstore speaking event to correct how her friend holds the microphone. Is she trying to be over smart?”
Another then added, “So incredibly rude, and yet so typical,” while a third person wrote, “Courtney Adamo couldn’t keep the fake smiles and laughing going as Meghan Markle spewed word salad. As per usual, Meghan gets a microphone and thinks it’s a licence to talk over everyone else.”
Despite this, others praised her overall appearance, with one fan posting on Instagram, “She’s slaying right now,” and another chimed in, “While Meghan is enjoying life, the royal scandal in Britain is raging on. Keep shining, Meghan.”
