Joe Rogan unloaded on President Donald Trump during a recent podcast episode, calling it “crazy” that the administration appeared to be targeting the late-night comedian.
The podcaster weighed in on both controversies during Friday’s episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, joined by comedian Mark Normand.
Normand raised the subject of Jimmy Kimmel Live! host Jimmy Kimmel first, whose mock White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech drew backlash from the president after Kimmel called Melania Trump an “expectant widow.”
Normand had little patience for the resulting drama.
“The Kimmel s–t is annoying,” Normand said. “Like, the fighting with Kimmel over the jokes. Stop trying to shut down comedy.”
Rogan backed him up, pointing to a defense of Kimmel made by comedian Adam Carolla, noting that nobody batted an eye at the joke until the shooting changed the context entirely.
“Adam Carolla had a really good point. [Kimmel] said that joke on a Thursday. On Friday, nobody gave a s–t,” Rogan said.
“No one cared on Saturday until Saturday night, when the assassination attempt [happened] and then all a sudden everyone’s blaming Kimmel.”
Trump had called on ABC twice that week to fire Kimmel over the remark.
Rogan then pivoted to former FBI Director James Comey, who was charged by Trump’s Justice Department after posting an image of seashells arranged in a pattern some interpreted as threatening, the numbers 86-47, which reads as “get rid of Trump.”
Rogan was blunt, responding with, “Here’s what’s crazy, no arrests. No one’s being brought in. Meanwhile, Comey is getting arrested for a photo of seashells that say ’86-47′.”
“86 is … if you get fired, ‘What happened to Mike? He got 86’d.’ It doesn’t mean you got killed. But this is a crazy thing to arrest someone for.”
“It’s nuts. Like, you’re going after someone for something that’s just silly,” Rogan said. “Arresting a guy for that is nuts.”
Rogan also questioned the DOJ’s priorities, saying, “If the guy really was dirty, you should have something on him other than this seashell picture,” Rogan said, suggesting the department was “just looking for any reason” to bring charges.
