Maddox is the latest m of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children to drop “Pitt” from their combined last name.
TMZ reports that the 24-year-old filed paperwork to legally change his name to Maddox Chivan Jolie, rather than keeping the hyphenated Jolie-Pitt surname.
Professionally, he’s been going by Maddox Jolie, which he used in the credits of his mother’s recent film, Couture, for which he served as an assistant director. His request hasn’t yet been granted.
He’s not the only child of the celebrity exes to drop Pitt as a last name. Earlier this month, 21-year-old Zahara went by Zahara Marley Jolie during her graduation from Atlanta’s Spelman College. In 2024, 20-year-old Shiloh filed to drop the surname on her 18th birthday. That same year, 17-year-old Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie in the Playbill for The Outsiders, which she helped her mother produce.
Jolie and Pitt finalized their divorce in December 2024 after an 8-year battle. The pair was married for two years and had been domestic partners for almost 10, before Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. They then proceeded to have a bitter legal battle over their assets, children, and more. In 2019, the pair were declared legally single.
In 2023, Jolie told Vogue she and her kids “had a lot of healing to do” following her split from Pitt. They share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and Vivienne and Knox. Their three oldest children were adopted internationally.
