We’ve all been there. You finally break up with the shitty boyfriend your friends have been telling you to ditch for months, or worse, said shitty boyfriend dumps you first. Even if it was one of those splits you saw coming (or are even kinda hyped about), healing still needs to happen. And according to Brie Larson, the best way to get over it is a breakup party.
“Say you finally dumped the dumb dumb that you should have dumped a while ago, I can’t think of a party that you deserve more than that,” the Lessons in Chemistry star said while promoting her new cookbook, Party People, on the latest episode of the Delish podcast, SNACKS!.
Brie is speaking from experience. “There was a time I went through a bad breakup, and my girlfriends were immediately like, ‘We’re going out. We’re gonna have a party.’ It was probably as close to a bachelorette party as I could have ever got,” she joked. “[It was] so good. It was like girls and dancing and drinking.”
What should be on the menu if you’re considering a breakup party of your own? According to Brie, there are basics to consider: Jell-O shots, pizza, and maybe a Rice Krispies situation. “Wear whatever the heck you want but be free,” Brie added. “Play music, [have a] dance party.” Her bestie-slash-co-author, Courtney McBroom, got a little more literal with the assignment. “Dump cakes,” she suggested. “Maybe some quail or a roast chicken because you’re free as a bird.” Real.
The good news? Brie and Courtney’s new book has recipes primed for the occasion. Whip up the Dueling Roast Chickens and drown your sorrows in a round of Old Pal cocktails. You’ll be good as new.
