Former child star Blake Garrett has passed away at 33, with his mother stating the family is awaiting clarification on the circumstances surrounding his death.
Carol revealed her son endured distressing health complications in his final days. Blake sought emergency care in Oklahoma last week due to severe discomfort and subsequently received a diagnosis of shingles, Carol reported. Shingles is a viral condition that produces a painful rash and can emerge when the chickenpox virus reactivates in adults who had the illness during childhood. Approximately one in three individuals will experience shingles during their lifetime, according to the CDC.
In an interview with TMZ, Carol expressed her belief that Blake may have attempted to manage his pain through self-medication. She suspects her son’s death may have been an unintentional tragedy, reports the Mirror US.
Carol noted Blake had been living “a really good life” in Tulsa, Oklahoma, following his achievement of sobriety approximately three years prior. Blake’s family is now awaiting the release of his autopsy results.
The actor launched his career as a youngster, appearing in community theater productions of Aladdin And His Magical Lamp and Peanuts: A Charlie Brown Tribute. At age 10, Blake transitioned to touring theater, traveling throughout America in a staging of Barney’s Colorful World. His best-remembered performance came in the 2006 film How To Eat Fried Worms. Blake and his fellow cast members received the Best Young Ensemble Cast honor at the 28th Young Artist Awards in 2007.
Although Blake achieved recognition as a child performer, he appears to have stepped away from acting in recent years. His filmography shows no additional projects following How To Eat Fried Worms.
