Jennifer Lopez knows what she wants — and it has nothing to do with flashy gifts, expensive cars or private jets.
Ahead of her 57th birthday on July 24, the singer and actress shared her surprisingly down-to-earth definition of what makes a man “sexy” while performing at a Dolce & Gabbana event at Isola Bella in Taormina, Sicily, on Thursday, July 16.
During the show, Lopez, 56, playfully interacted with her backup dancers before launching into a lighthearted monologue about relationships, independence and the qualities she truly values in a partner, per footage shared to Instagram and captured by a fashion historian.
“Fix my hair okay,” she told one of her male backup dancers. “Fix my hair. But the rest of you, get out of here. You’re broke. I don’t need you. I don’t need your money. I don’t need your gifts. That’s right.”
Lopez, clad in a bejeweled bodysuit, used the playful moment to make a bigger point about confidence, independence and why she doesn’t need someone else’s money to feel fulfilled.
“You know, people look at me, they look at me for years, and they think I’m expensive. You see my sparkly cup. And I am, I am expensive,” she laughed.

That night, the Grammy nominee dazzled in a custom Dolce & Gabbana sunshine yellow silk chiffon gown featuring a plunging neckline, high slits and a bodice adorned with a jeweled floral bra. She completed the look with a gemstone-embellished cape before transforming into a white lace bodysuit paired with a cropped alpaca wool and silk faux fur bolero and crystal-adorned white satin over-the-knee boots.
Lopez then emphasized that while she appreciates the finer things in life, she doesn’t need someone else to provide them.
She continued, “I am, but I have my own money. Ladies, am I right? We don’t need anybody to buy us anything. We don’t. We want them to, sometimes that’s nice.”

The sentiment comes after years of public interest in Lopez’s romantic life. The singer has been married four times, first to former waiter Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, followed by her marriage to dancer Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003. She later married singer Marc Anthony in 2004, and the couple welcomed twins, Max and Emme, 18, before divorcing in 2014.
Lopez was also famously engaged to Ben Affleck in the early 2000s before the pair called off their wedding. Nearly two decades later, they rekindled their romance and married in 2022 before separating in 2024. (They finalized their divorce in January 2025.) She was also engaged to former Yankees baseball player Alex Rodriguez before their 2021 split.
Lopez emphasized during her performance that the things that matter most in a relationship aren’t necessarily the ones that come with a luxury price tag.
“But you know what really makes a man attractive? It’s not the watch. It’s not the car. It’s not the private jet. It really isn’t, although that’s nice. It’s nice. It’s seeing them make the bed in the morning or wash the dishes for you when you’re tired at night,” she explained. “That’s what’s sexy. Now that’s what I call sexy. Cause ladies, you know, we do all the things. We do all the things.”
The crowd cheered as Lopez’s comments drew laughs and applause during the performance, which featured several of her biggest hits, including “Ain’t Your Mama,” “Save Me Tonight,” “Waiting for Tonight,” “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” and “Let’s Get Loud.”
One of the evening’s most memorable moments came when Lopez paid tribute to her time in Italy by performing “Il cielo in una stanza,” the classic song written by Gino Paoli and famously recorded by Mina. Singing in Italian, she closed the performance by thanking Dolce & Gabbana founders Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana before telling the audience, “Ti amo, Italia!”
She shared an Instagram Reel of the performance on Friday, July 17, with the caption, “Grazie Italia per l’immenso amore 🤍 Ti amo,” which translates in English to: “Thank you Italy for the immense love. I love you.”
The three-day Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda show took place from July 13 through July 16 in Taormina’s Isola Bella.
