A new list from Forbes puts Jimmy Buffett in some interesting company: He’s at a table with Elvis, Michael Jackson, Miles Davis, Notorious B.I.G., a couple of guys from Pink Floyd, Bob Marley and Dr. Seuss.
The catch: the list in question is “The Highest-Paid Dead Celebrities of 2025.”
Buffett, who died in 2023, is ranked at No. 8, with his estate bringing in income estimated at $14 million between Oct 1, 2024 and Sept. 30, 2025. The article notes that a legal battle is under way between Buffett’s widow and the estate’s co-executor, but observes that “the Margaritaville brand has yet to find a product it couldn’t attach its name to and sell to an army of Parrotheads — from apparel to hotels to several Buffett-inspired retirement communities.”
Still, that’s small potatoes compared to the estimated $105 million brought in by Michael Jackson’s estate, or the second-place haul of $85 million attributed to Dr. Seuss’.
The estates of Pink Floyd co-founders Richard Wright and Syd Barrett each received $81 million, which Forbes attributed mostly to a $400 million sale of publishing rights. That windfall, which was shared with three surviving members, put them in a tie at No. 3. Notorious B.I.G. was close behind at $80m.
From there, the numbers drop substantially. Miles Davis held the sixth spot with $21 million and the estate of Elvis Presley ranked seventh with $17 million.
