Prince Harry has made it clear he would love to reunite with the royal family, but a former butler believes there’s one thing standing in his way.
Earlier this year, the Duke of Sussex met with his father, King Charles, for the first time in more than a year. Harry’s also said he “would love a reconciliation” with the royal family as he admitted, “There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious.”
Despite Harry’s hopes for a future reunion, ex-royal butler Grant Harrold believes that won’t happen because of what Harry has previously said about Queen Camilla.
The Duke of Sussex, 41, criticized his step-mom in his explosive debut memoir, Spare. In the book, Harry branded Camilla “dangerous” and said she was a “villain” for allegedly leaking stories to the press.
Harry also claimed he and his brother, Prince William, begged their father not to marry Camilla, as he described her as his “wicked stepmother.”
Speaking to The Express US on behalf of OLBG about a possible royal reunion, former royal butler Grant Harrold said, “We know there was a private meeting between the King and Harry a few months ago, and nothing public has been said since. The meeting did help improve relations.”
However, he admitted, “The main obstacle has always been what Harry said about Camilla.
“If she has chosen to forgive and move on, then I can absolutely see the King extending an invitation to Harry and Meghan for Christmas. Charles doesn’t like holding grudges; he prefers peace, and he has offered olive branches before.”
If Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, were to be invited to the royal family’s Christmas, Harold said it would send a signal of “unity.” He told us, “The fact that there have been meetings, discussions, and very little briefing afterwards suggests things may indeed be improving behind the scenes.”
Camilla, however, isn’t the only person standing in Harry’s way. Harrold suggested his brother Prince William could be against a reunion.
“William is the bigger unknown,” the ex-royal butler said. “But I’m sure he, the King, and Queen Camilla will have discussed the possibility, because that’s what families do.”
Harrold concluded, “As for whether Harry and Meghan would accept: they may choose to stay in California, especially with Meghan’s mother there and the likelihood that the invitation would be for the couple rather than the whole extended family. They might instead plan to see the King in the New Year – which ties into the upcoming state visit.”
Senior members of the royal family are reportedly set to visit America next year, with it currently unclear if they will meet with Harry and Meghan on the trip.
