Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban split up after 19 years of marriage: How many kids do the couple have together?

Actres Nicole Kidman had been married to fellow Australian-American Keith Urban since 2006, having met the country musician just a year earlier. Together, Kidman and Urban share two daughters: Sunday Rose, born in 2008, and Faith Margaret, born in 2010 via surrogacy.

“The loves of my life”

In April 2024, Sunday and Faith could be seen making their red-carpet debut alongside their parents, when Kidman attended an American Film Institute gala in Hollywood to pick up a lifetime achievement award.

“Right there is the love of my life, and the loves of my life,” the Big Little Lies star said. “My daughters have never been anywhere publicly with me on a red carpet, tonight was their first night, so they’re here, Sunday and Faith.”

Before meeting Urban, Kidman was married to fellow actor Tom Cruise. The couple divorced in 2001 after more than a decade of marriage. Kidman and Cruise adopted two children together: Isabella, born in 1992, and Connor, born in 1995.

An immediate spark – but a long wait for a phone call

Kidman and Urban first met at G’Day LA, an event celebrating Australian culture and contributions.

For Kidman, there was an immediate spark – but she told Ellen DeGeneres’ chat show that Urban did not call her for four months. She assumed he “wasn’t interested,” but to her surprise, he did finally give her a ring.

Kidman could not have been more wrong in her belief that Urban wasn’t into her. He told Andrew Denton in an interview in 2018 that he “thought she was way out of my league,” and that he didn’t believe “in a million years […] that somebody like that would be interested” in him.

Urban’s comments show how his lack of self-confidence almost got in the way of his future relationship, and the happiness he has shared with Kidman and the family they have together over the last two decades.

There for each other

Both Urban and Kidman have spoken about the love and support their partner has provided to them in times when they really needed it.

Urban, in particular, has been candid about how the relationship compelled him to confront his substance abuse, crediting his wife’s support for helping him achieve sobriety.

TODAY pointed to an interview Urban did with Oprah Winfrey, in which he said he felt “very blessed to have Nic call an intervention” for him that had included “a tight group of friends.” After finishing rehab in 2007, Urban went on tour, and there have been no reports of lapses, though that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t struggled with his addiction since that time.

Years later, Kidman spoke about the support her husband provided her after her father died suddenly. Again speaking with DeGeneres, she talked of the gratitude she felt to “have a partner who just literally carries you through a tough time.”

The loss of her father was devastating, as many can understand, and Kidman said that she can be brought to tears thinking about the way Urban “stepped up” for her and their family at a time when she was grieving.
