The Kansas City Royals are fighting for the final American League wild card spot entering Sunday, trailing the Seattle Mariners by two games.
With back-to-back postseason trips a real possibility, superstar Bobby Witt Jr. has once again led the charge.

The 25-year-old shortstop has put together another incredible season following a historic 2024 campaign that saw him finish second in AL MVP voting, while earning his first Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, and All-Star selection.
In 2025, Witt has shown no signs of slowing down, posting a .299 batting average, .355 on-base percentage, .860 OPS, and leading the league in doubles with 41.

During Saturday’s 3–1 win over the division rival Detroit Tigers, Witt launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, which proved to be the game’s deciding runs. It marked his 20th long ball of the season.

After the game, the Royals announced that Witt had become the first player in MLB history to record 20 home runs and 30 stolen bases in each of his first four seasons.
Bobby Witt Jr. Could Become Greatest Royal Ever
Following Witt’s latest historic feat, it’s possible the young superstar may become the greatest player to ever suit up for the Royals.
Witt signed an 11-year, $288 million deal—the largest in franchise history—before the 2024 season and responded with the best campaign of his career.

At just 25 years old, he has the next decade to build up his career totals and attempt to take Kansas City back to the World Series.
George Brett likely remains the best Royal of all time, but even he’s acknowledged Witt’s trajectory. “I can kiss my numbers goodbye,” Brett said, as long as Witt stays healthy (via The Kansas City Star).
Witt has already amassed 20.5 WAR—still a long way from Brett’s legendary 88.6—but the pace is historic. His 2024 season alone produced 9.4 WAR, tied with Brett for the highest single-season mark in franchise history.

He also became the first Royal to post a 30-homer, 40-steal season, showcasing a power-speed combo Brett never had.
