Saturday Night Live (SNL) took a sharp jab at Prince Andrew, following the announcement that he will lose his Royal titles and ‘Prince’ title.
Last week, it was revealed that Prince Andrew will henceforth be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, forfeiting his Royal title, honors, and accommodations.
In the latest SNL episode, comedian Michael Che humorously commented on the recent Royal news, making light of Andrew’s past allegations and scandal due to his association with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The 42-year-old quipped to viewers and the live audience, “Prince Andrew has been stripped of his royal title of ‘Prince’ due to his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, and Andrew says he can only become a prince again if he gets a kiss from a young princess.”
Prince Andrew’s titles have been officially rescinded, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace and King Charles. In October, Buckingham Palace announced that the disgraced Royal will now go by Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
The statement declared, “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honors of Prince Andrew,” reports the Mirror US.
“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.
“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
The decision means Andrew must vacate the 30-room Royal Lodge, which he has occupied with his former wife, Sarah Ferguson. Andrew relinquished his other titles, including the Duke of York, in October amid growing scrutiny over his association with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has vehemently rejected all accusations.
Sources indicate Andrew raised no objections to the King’s ruling and that Prince William backed the handling of these private family matters.
Nevertheless, Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has indicated the alterations may prove difficult for Andrew to accept, noting, “I think it will be pretty well a living hell for him, given his particular fondness for titles and his entitled attitude. One of the troubles with him is that he has proven to be so greedy,” Fitzwilliams added. “People see him as entitled, greedy, and also unbelievably bovine.”
