This New Netflix Film Is Skyrocketing—and It’s Almost Too Steamy to Watch

One of my favorite things about being an entertainment editor is, well, you guessed it, the entertainment. More specifically, keeping tabs on what everyone’s binge-watching on their screens, whether it’s a full-on flatscreen or a phone held six inches from their face. So naturally, I’m constantly checking the latest Top 10 lists on all the streaming platforms. During a recent scroll through Netflix’s Top 10, most of the usual suspects were there: WWE Raw, Wednesday, Untamed, Sullivan’s Crossing, The Hunting Wives—you know, titles I’ve either seen or at least heard people obsessing over. Then something unexpected caught my eye in the number six spot: Fall for Me. I hadn’t heard a single peep about it, which made me instantly curious.

At first glance, it looked like your classic steamy, romantic drama, definitely giving 365 Days energy. But after a little digging, I discovered it’s not just another sultry love story. There’s also a Tinder Swindler-esque twist to it, and according to Netflix, the film is loosely inspired by that exact scammy vibe. So what exactly is Fall for Me about?

Julia Terjung/Netflix

It’s a German-language film that quietly dropped on Netflix on August 21.

The plot follows Lilli (played by Svenja Jung), who heads to Mallorca after a breakup to visit her younger sister Valeria (Tijan Marei), who’s living on an old family estate. What’s supposed to be a peaceful sisterly getaway turns dark when Valeria introduces her new French fiancé, Manu (Victor Meutelet). The couple wants to sell the family property to fund their dream of opening a luxury B&B but Lilli’s not ready to let go of the home that connects her to their late mother.

Cue even more drama: Lilli has a passionate one-night stand with Tom (Theo Trebs), only to find out he’s been hired by shady real estate developer Nick (Thomas Kretschmann) to seduce her into signing away the property. Classic betrayal. As her connection with Tom deepens, so do the lies but you know the truth always bubbles to the surface.

And when it comes to the sultriness of it all, the trailer gives a pretty steamy preview of what’s in store. Think slow, tension-filled moments—like when he softly grazes her lips with his fingers—paired with full-blown heat, including scenes of them tearing each other’s clothes off and making out underwater.

Directed by Sherry Hormann, the film also features a familiar face for Emily in Paris fans. Manu is played by the same actor who played Camille’s younger brother—you know, the one Emily hooks up with before realizing he’s only 17. Yep, that guy.

While Fall for Me is currently holding the number six spot in the U.S., it’s already skyrocketed to number one on Netflix’s global non-English movie chart.

If you’re into sultry with a side of crime and betrayal, Fall for Me might just be your next watch. Streaming now on Netflix.
