Travis Kelce waited a couple of days before sharing his detailed reaction to Taylor Swift’s album The Life of a Showgirl on yesterday’s episode of New Heights. The football star had plenty of praise for his fiancée and an excellent response when his co-host and brother, Jason Kelce, asked how it feels to be Swift’s creative muse. Many of the tracks on The Life of a Showgirl are about Kelce and their love story.
Kelce downplayed the honor, saying, “I’m just the lucky man that gets to be, you know, the support system for Taylor while she drops one of the coolest albums that I’ve ever listened to, that the world’s seen. I’m excited for her. I’m happy for her. Everything seems to have gone perfectly, all this planning.”
He revealed that he got to listen to the album while it was in the making, noting, “You see it from start to finish. She started this thing in the middle of her tour in Europe. To see it all unfold and come together and her connect the dots—from the strategic planning to how the album was all going to look—then to listen to the music, and everything comes together and her finally getting that 12th song and being like ‘I think it’s done.’
“From that point on, it’s like her and her label are just working their ass off to make this one of the biggest releases of all time. I’m just happy as hell for it because she’s happy with it. She’s proud of this and obviously I’m proud of her for going through the hoops to live out her dreams.”
Earlier in the show, Kelce proudly said that his fiancée “put the world on tilt.” He praised her press tour, adding, “She has looked amazing, sounded amazing, and this album is absolutely amazing.”
The Kelce brothers also mentioned New Heights’ shout-out on The Life of a Showgirl. Swift sings “New Heights of manhood,” in the track “Wood,” and they thought the lyric was “cool.”
The song is not-so-subtly about her fiancé’s “manhood.” Jason tried to press the Kansas City Chiefs player on how he felt about the tribute. Kelce laughed, saying, “It’s a great song.”
“I love that girl so any song that she would reference me in any way or any form [I’d like],” he added. When his brother stressed that it’s an “appendage” she’s referencing, Kelce pretended to be confused. “What? I think you’re not understanding the song,” he quipped.
