When a Book Turns Into a Thought Spiral

Alright, I have to be honest with you — this whole thought train started because I picked up a book and suddenly my brain wouldn’t shut off. And if you know me at all, you know that usually means I need to talk it out… so here we are.

I’ve always loved classic rock. Not just listening to it, but really knowing it. I love following the bands, the members, the drama, and the history — how these artists went from being regular people to full-blown legends. There’s something special about understanding where the music came from and what it took to get there.

The Reality Check of Losing Legends

That’s probably why this past summer hit a little harder than I expected. Losing Ozzy Osbourne made reality set in real fast: I will never get the chance to see him live. That door closed forever, and as dramatic as it sounds, it genuinely hurt.

Then Paul McCartney announced his final tour, and I wasn’t able to get tickets. Knowing I might never see my favorite Beatle perform live? Yeah… a small piece of my soul absolutely died that day.

A College Project That Still Stuck With Me

That’s when a memory popped into my head from college. In a photography class, we had to recreate a famous photo, and I chose Audrey Hepburn. Now, I am *not* Audrey Hepburn — but I picked her because she’s one of my favorite actresses and, to me, she defines elegance, class, and timeless beauty.

Even all these years later, she still represents what it means to be iconic.

When Milestone Birthdays Make You Think

Then Dick Van Dyke turned 100 years old, and that really sent my brain spiraling. Every time I hear about a celebrity passing away, I notice I have a very specific reaction. We all have those celebrities we silently hope we never see in a breaking news headline.

The Names We Never Want to See Trending

For me, that list includes Bob Weir, Robert Plant, Stevie Nicks, Dick Van Dyke, Tom Hanks — and honestly, several more. These people feel like constants. Like they’ve always been here and always will be.

Their music, movies, and performances are woven into our lives in ways we don’t even realize until we’re faced with the idea of losing them.

Why Does It Hurt When We Never Knew Them?

And it got me wondering — why does it hurt so much? Isn’t it kind of wild that we can mourn someone who doesn’t even know we exist? That we can feel emotional, nostalgic, or even grieve over a stranger?

But maybe it’s not really about them. Maybe it’s about what they represent — a time in our lives, a memory, a feeling, or even who we were when their art mattered most.

The Soundtrack of Our Lives

So now I’m curious. Who are the celebrities for you? Which names would make your heart drop if you saw them trending for the wrong reason? And what would you remember them by — a song, a movie, a moment, or a version of yourself?

Because whether we realize it or not, these icons shape us. And losing them feels like losing a small piece of the soundtrack to our lives.
