A new rumor about the plot details for Marvel Studios‘ highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday movie has been revealed, teasing what to expect from Ian McKellen’s return as Magneto. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026. It will then be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
What’s the new update for Avengers: Doomsday?
According to The Cosmic Circus’s Alex Perez, Magneto will reportedly be leading his own “mutant utopia.” He also hinted at the X-Men villain’s efforts to protect it.
“When we see Magneto again in Doomsday, he finally has the mutant utopia he had always dreamed of. When it’s threatened, you know he’ll throw hands to protect it.” Perez responded to a question about Magneto’s potential storyline in Avengers: Doomsday.
Perez also claimed that Kang the Conqueror was the one responsible for causing the incursions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, describing the villain as “the original sin.” At the moment, the studio hasn’t unveiled the next actor who will be replacing Jonathan Majors for the role of Kang.
Avengers: Doomsday is being directed by Avengers: Endgame filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo from a screenplay written by Stephen McFeely. The latest installment will feature the return of Marvel vets Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth, with the Oppenheimer actor set to play a completely different role this time in the form of Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. The ensemble cast will also include Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Lewis Pullman, Simu Liu, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Danny Ramirez.
The fifth installment will also feature the return of X-Men stars Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Following the movie’s viral casting announcement video, Feige previously confirmed they haven’t revealed the entire cast yet, teasing more casting announcements in the future. Recent casting rumors suggested that Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers, and Spider-Man might also appear in Doomsday.
