Peter Greene, best known for his role in Pulp Fiction, has died at the age of 60. The actor was found dead inside his apartment in New York City on December 12. His cause of death has not been confirmed. Greene was discovered in his Lower East Side apartment after a welfare check was carried out. Confirming his death to The celebrity.land, Greene’s manager Gregg Edwards said concerns were raised after music was heard playing from his apartment for more than one day with no response.

Police told the publication that Greene’s body was found unresponsive inside his home at “around 3:25 p.m” and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Edwards described the tragic news as a shock as he had spoken with the actor earlier in the week. Edwards, who was Greene’s manager for over 10 years, branded the star a “terrific guy”, adding: “Truly one of the great actors of our generation. His heart was as big as there was. I’m going to miss him. He was a great friend.”

Green was born in Montclair, New Jersey, in October 1965, but didn’t decide to pursue a career in acting until his mid-20s. His first film role came in 1992, when he portrayed Jimmy in Laws of Gravity.

The following year, he earned critical praise for his leading role in the drama Clean, Shaven, where he portrayed a man with schizophrenia suspected of murder.

Greene was best known for playing the sadistic security guard Zed in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 classic Pulp Fiction. The same year, he starred as villain Dorian opposite Jim Carrey in The Mask.

“Nobody played a bad guy better than Peter,” Edwards told New York Daily News. “But he also had, you know, a gentle side that most people never saw, and a heart as big as gold.”

With close to 95 acting credits, Greene’s roles also included Blue Streak (1999), Ticker (2001), Training Day (2001), The Gentleman Bandit (2002), The Bounty Hunter (2010) and Tesla (2020).

Greene was set to begin production on an independent thriller titled Mascots alongside Mickey Rourke in January. He was also due to star in State of Confusion, a crime-drama written and directed by E.B. Hughes, set to begin filming in 2026.

When he was 15, Greene ran away and lived on the streets of New York City, later turning to drug use and eventually dealing.

In a profile published in the November 1996 issue of Premiere magazine, Greene said he was hunted by drug dealers who attempted to kill him. He ended up hiding in theatres which led to his career in acting. Greene admitted to attempting suicide in 1996 before seeking treatment for his addictions.

Tributes have flooded in for the actor, with many taking to social media to recognise his exceptional talents.

One wrote: “I became familiar with Peter Greene by way of the films Laws of Gravity (1992) and Clean, Shaven (1993) and, because I was a young guy, watching these movies, I assumed this was a type of actor that existed, and there were other guys like that. Turns out there was just the one.”

Another echoed: “Any time Peter Greene popped up, you just knew he was gonna play the scuzziest villain. Such a memorable character actor. RIP.”

A third agreed: “Sad news to wake up to about Peter Greene. A fantastic villain character. Enjoyed his roles growing up. Especially in The Mask. RIP Peter.”
