Rapper Donald Glover, who performs under the name Childish Gambino, said during a show Saturday that he was forced to cancel several dates on his world tour last year because he had a stroke.
Glover, 42, made the announcement during his performance at the Camp Flog Gnaw festival in Los Angeles, USA Today reports.
“I was doing this world tour,” he said, according to The Guardian. “I was having lots of fun, really loving seeing you guys out there. I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana and I did the show anyway. I couldn’t really see well, so when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital and the doctor was like, ‘You had a stroke.’ …
“The first thing was like, ‘I’m letting everybody down.’ I know it’s not true.”
Glover said doctors discovered he had a hole in his heart, leading to multiple surgeries.
“They say everybody has two lives and the second life starts when you realize you have one,” Glover said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “You got one life, guys. And I got to be honest, the life I’ve lived with you guys has been such a blessing. … You should be living your life how you want. If we have to do this again, it can only get better.”
Glover has released six albums and won five Grammys. He also starred in the TV show “Community” and has appeared in movies such as “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “The Martian” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
