The new album, whose title translates to “purification”, explores themes of cleansing, renewal and rebirth. It draws inspiration from the Xhosa proverb Umntu yinkosi ukuzazi (“one’s power lies in self-knowledge”) and reflects Dyantyis’s continued focus on spiritual and emotional storytelling through music.

Born in Gqeberha, Dyantyis began his musical journey in the church before pursuing formal studies at the University of Cape Town, where he completed a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies with distinction. Over the years, he has become one of South Africa’s leading jazz figures, known for blending traditional and contemporary sounds.

In addition to his solo work, Dyantyis has collaborated with the Isango Ensemble Theatre Company since 2006 as associate and musical director, earning an NAACP Award nomination in Los Angeles. His international experience includes a residency at New York University and performances at Herbie Hancock’s International Jazz Day Global Concert in 2021 and 2024.

His debut album Somandla (2018) and follow-up Cwaka (2021) received critical acclaim, with the latter winning multiple awards. His compositions have featured in notable productions such as Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story and Nina: By Whatever Means, a ballet inspired by Nina Simone.

In 2023 and 2025, Dyantyis toured the country with large-scale projects including the Mandisi Dyantyis Jazz Orchestra and the Symphonic Celebration series, both of which sold out venues nationwide.

The upcoming tour supporting Intlambululo: Ukuhlambulula will feature Dyantyis and his seven-piece band performing new material live for the first time, offering audiences an intimate introduction to his latest work.
