Hit HBO mini series Task left viewers reduced to tears as they watched the finale of the show.
Fans flocked to social media to heap praise on the series and it’s stars – including Marvel actor Mark Ruffalo – as the run of episodes reached its conclusion.
From the same team behind Kate Winslet’s Mare Of Easttown the show takes place in Philadelphia‘s blue-collar neighborhoods and centers on an FBI agent leading a task force determined to stop a series of brutal robberies.
The seven-episode run had fans captivated from the start, scoring a huge 95% on critique site Rotten Tomatoes.
Mark Ruffalo headlines the cast as Tom Brandis, a former FBI agent and ex-priest who gets pulled back into active duty. He had been on leave following a personal family tragedy.
Tom Pelphrey also stars as Robbie Prendergast. He portrays a single dad and garbage collector who breaks into homes during nighttime hours.
The cast also includes Emilia Jones as Maeve, Robbie’s niece, Fabien Frankel as county detective Anthony Grasso, and Thuso Mbedu as task force detective Aleah Clinton.
Inspired by the finale fans took to X where they shared their take on the series and how it wrapped up.
One wrote, “Task culminated in a beautiful finale about forgiveness, sacrifice and healing from trauma. absolutely one of the best shows of the year #task.”
Another shared a clip as they posted, “TASK on HBO has truly reminded us all just how incredible of and actor Mark Ruffalo is. This entire sequence was insanely emotional and I believe we’ll get him a nomination come Emmys next year.”
A third said, “The TASK finale was so full of tension and catharsis. beautiful beautifullll performances! I don’t think any other series this year can top this one for me.”

Mark – who has fans thrilled with his performance in the series – went above and beyond to take on the role of Tom.
The actor revealed he was instructed to gain 30-40 pounds and used a fake belly to achieve the desired appearance.
He shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “I went in for my camera test, the producers saw me and their jaws hit the ground.
“They were like, ‘We don’t want to see Mark Ruffalo like this!’ But I think it’s these impediments that make Tom such a dynamic FBI agent because he makes up for it in other ways.
“And, I did come to find out from Scott Duffy, our technical advisor from the FBI, that people like Tom are good agents because of their compassion with people and ability to interview them.”
