Whoopi Goldberg often exits The View cohost group chats, one panelist has revealed.
Alyssa Farah Griffin said the EGOT winner leaves text threads when she feels like it.
“Do what Whoopi does, and just leave the chat,” Griffin said on the Behind the Table podcast.
Whoopi Goldberg, who famously does not want Amazon Alexa in the house, apparently also does not want to be in her View cohosts’ chaotic group chats.
After a headline-making broadcast Monday that saw three cohosts, including Goldberg, miss the show’s first new episode since June amid a series of natural disasters, cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin and producer Brian Teta revealed details about a wild panelist text thread before the program’s return.
“This morning when the text thread with all the hosts started popping off when you were explaining what was happening, I kept ignoring it,” Griffin said on the show’s Behind the Table podcast (below). “I was like, I feel like this is just Joy [Behar] probably texting about what she wants to talk about today.”

The chain lit up after Teta had to ask Behar, who typically has Mondays off, to fill in for Goldberg, as the EGOT winner was stranded in Italy amid the Mount Etna volcanic eruption, while Ana Navarro and Sara Haines both missed the episode due to storm-related incidents.
“But there were so many texts. I was like, one down, two down, three down!” Griffin continued. Teta said, “The last thing I want to do in the morning is start a text thread with all the hosts, because it always spirals into madness. It’s a bad idea, but I did it today.”
Laughing, Griffin added, “Do what Whoopi does and just leave the chat,” she said.
“I almost added Robin, the head of the Hot Topics team, to the chat, and then I almost left it,” Teta said, admitting that the conversation was almost too chaotic for him, too.
Goldberg has spoken about this before, revealing in 2024 that she keeps removing herself from the chat — particularly on the weekend.
“I feel like Michael Corleone, because I take myself off the group texts,” she said, to which Sunny Hostin replied: “And Joy puts you right back on.”
Navarro then suggested that Goldberg “silence” the notifications, though Goldberg balked at the thought.
“Silencing y’all does not mean being part of it,” Goldberg continued. “I don’t care, I don’t care what you’re upset about. It’s the weekend!”

Monday’s show saw Goldberg elaborate on why she missed the program, with the actress submitting a video dispatch from Sicily, where she was stranded after an airport ground stoppage due to the active volcano in the area.
